Stairlift to Heaven
The well known Bible scholar and philosopher Belinda Carlisle observed in 1987 that:
They say in Heaven, love comes first
We’ll make Heaven a place on Earth
Ooh, Heaven is a place on Earth
It turns out that Hell is a place on earth too. When Jesus talked about hell, his warnings in the Sermon on the Mount: anyone who calls another a fool, or who allows their right eye or hand to sin, will be cast into “hell” (Matthew 5:22, 29-30). But these passages are not actually referring to “hell.” The word Jesus uses is “Gehenna.” Which is not a place of eternal torment but a notorious valley burial site just outside the walls of Jerusalem where ancient Israelites practiced child sacrifice to foreign gods. Which makes Jonh Lennon and Imagine right too.
A man goes to Heaven and meets Jesus.
While Jesus is showing him round, he spots a broken clock.
“What’s that there for?” he asks.
Jesus says “that’s Mother Teresa’s clock it has never moved because she has never lied.”
“Just over here is Abraham Lincoln’s clock. He lied twice, so it has moved twice.”
“Where is Boris’s clock?” asks the man.
Jesus answers: “It’s in my office, I’m using it as a ceiling fan.”
