A siren calls. A girl turns. She sees a glint of silver winking at her from a corner of the rock pool. Sea urchins and baby crabs scuttle in all directions as she reaches into the shallows to locate the half-hidden object. As she pulls the bakelite and chrome box out of the water, a rusty aerial slowly extends from its casing. The mottled dial lights up and static coalesces into sound. As the waves dribble back into yesterday and currents fade into tomorrow, the girl, older now, upturns a barnacled record chest. Underneath, dessicated tunas turn their gills in the direction of the ocean and take a deep breath..
