Glock Music
The glockenspiel, whose name means “set of bells” in German, is a percussion instrument made of tuned steel bars arranged in a keyboard-like layout. It originated as a set of graduated bells in the 17th century, later evolving into the modern metallophone design. Initially played with drumsticks, the use of mallets became popular in the 19th century, coinciding with the Romantic era. The glockenspiel is known for its bright, high-pitched tone and is commonly used in orchestras, marching bands, and even popular music. To put it another way, if you include a glockenspiel, there’s probably a kitchen sink in there as well.
