Crush

The term “crush” meaning a mild romantic attachment is thought to date back to the late 19th century. It reflects the sensation of being emotionally overwhelmed or “crushed” by an intense yet fleeting infatuation. An Orange Crush is a refreshing cocktail typically made with freshly squeezed orange juice, vodka, triple sec, and a splash of soda water. A lot of ingredients in a small space. This week we are playing a lot of different songs about romantic crushes, mixed and shaken within the confines of a two hour show. Whether you’re gliding around the room or crushed against a wall of emotion, we’ll make sure that you’re stirred, if not shaken.

Skin

Skin is a hugely important symbol in music and lyrics because it represents both physical and emotional boundaries.

Skin is the point of physical connection, making it a common metaphor for love, attraction, and desire.  It can offer protection but is also a point of vulnerability, someone can be both thick and thin skinned..

Songs about skin can refer to racial identity, social justice, or cultural pride and shedding skin or occupying a “new” skin can symbolise rebirth or hope for the future.

Skin is the crossing between our internal and external selves, offering artists a way of exploring love, identity, and emotional strength. We’ve all got skin in the game..

Popped Out

Musicians and labels release pop singles to generate buzz, promote albums, and connect with listeners at scale. Singles act as a testing ground for audience response, paving the way for radio play, streaming success, or viral moments. When a single bombs, it can be a wake-up moment for both artist and label. It can prompt re-writing strategy, tweaking marketing, or releasing a quick follow-up to regain momentum. Sometimes, a non-hit single is part of the artist’s creative journey, helping them refine their output and focus on their audience’s preferences. Sometimes the track is a work of lost genius, too good for this world of instant consumption and rejection. We’re popping a few of them into the show..
