Shadows on the Dancefloor

The  salad days of disco, glitter balls and garish lighting are over. We’re  now in an unlit underground dance cave where there is no hint of  glamour, just shadows caught up in their own tribal body shapes. The  music is spoken in French, Spanish and Swedish and even though it is  dark here, it is even darker outside.
There is no more celebrity. Just sirens.
The party is over. But the music stays.
In the dark we are all the same..

Alternative dance music with something to say..for today.

Once upon a time in another place

For 850 Lost Immortals, 5 to 7pm on a Sunday is a gathering ground of yesterday’s missing masterpieces, today’s emerging talent and tomorrow’s legends. Songs that live in a difference country called melody and speak in the lost language of musicianship. The possibilities. The passage of time. The participation of shared song searches. The thrill of prospecting for gold in those hills and streams. And finding it.

Music from Within

Music triggers strong emotions and raises awareness. Strong feelings remind us of the things we need to survive as a human race – reproduction, survival and the protection of our civilization through shared knowledge.

Societies with a musical culture have flourished because music creates identity, carries important messages and inspires people to care for other members of their community.

So, the deeper the music, the more belonging, more hope for the future and a greater sense of wellbeing at the heart of society.

This week we play music from within that reassures us that we can work it out..

Music from Within.

Fears and tears?

Hearing robots cry?

Ghosts inside?

Need a shoulder to cry on? Try this..

The Heart of Soul

Neo soul was put on the map by Motown President Kedar Massenburg during the late 1990s He used it to define a style of music that emerged from soul and contemporary R&B. His discovery Erykah Badu defines the genre. With its roots in soul music, neo soul is distinguished by a less conventional sound than contemporary R&B, with elements ranging from jazz, funk, and hip hop to pop, fusion, and African music. It links traditional R&B influences, socially conscious lyrics, and strong female voices. Heart and soul; love and sacrifice; unsafe and unsound.

It also sounds great on a Sunday afternoon.

Where’s Home for you?

The first thing we ask someone when we meet them, after their name, is where they are from, or the more insightful where’s home for you?” We ask, not just to place them geographically, but because we recognize that the answer tells us something important about them.

Memories, are triggered by the physical environment. When you visit a place you used to live, your brain wiring can cause you to revert back to the person you were when you lived there. Whilst you can’t possibly live everywhere you once called home but you can put photographs of it on your walls.

No one is ever free from their social or physical environment. And whether or not we are always aware of it, a home is a home because it helps define who we are, where we are now in our lives and what we’ve left behind.

Coming home is one of the most emotive phrases in the English language…..and it has its own music that we are playing today. Oh, and does having more than one home mean that you’re schizophrenic? No just multi-faceted.
