Episode 25

The Importance of Small Things

Why are small things important in life? It’s your choice to engineer positive change in your life. When you sit down and look at the world around you realise you can’t change how people treat you or what they say about you. All you can do is to change how you react to it. But if you focus on the small things you will stop reacting – and start responding to life.

‘The Importance of Small Things’ in words and music. Songs that take you to the recesses of memory, the childhood places; summer holidays long ago; the friends you had – and may still have.

Don’t just react. Respond.

Panning for Gold

A thousand songs are uploaded to streaming sites every hour. That’s 24,000 songs every day and 1 million tracks every six weeks. In other words, almost 9 million tracks are added to the streaming services catalogues every year. About half of these are new songs; the rest digitised versions of old tunes. But that’s still 11,000 new songs every day of the year. Or a song every 8 seconds.

So how many tracks are lost in this process? This week we’ll listen to a tiny segment of these tracks – the ones I’ve managed to listen to. How many of them will turn into gold? Maybe one or two.

Have a listen and decide.

Songs that Matter

We are all so used to listening to the disposable, committee written pop hits played on other less discriminating stations, that we sometimes forget that some songs have changed the way we think, act and feel.
