Sunburnt in the shade

Musicians have used fire to represent love and desire in songs, burning emotions can create passion, but can also lead to burn out and despair. It can transform days, relationships, futures and yet can also throw relationships, hopes and dreams onto the bonfire. In 2005 Brighton Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) put out a compilation of student bands called ‘How to Mend a Broken Pier’. On it was a band called Supersmile led by Simon Kaye. I think we may have tracked down Simon to Melbourne and have included a 2018 track from him. There’s a 1966 band called Monks who literally created holes in their hair. There’s a track from Lady Blackbird – in the highest echelon of soul singers in the world. And what is the link between Galaxy and Baby-D? This will end. But not until 7pm..

Being Brave

Not everyone wants to be brave – and that’s OK. If you feel better being vulnerable or seeking support when faced with challenges, that’s fine. Being brave is not compulsory; it’s a personal choice. People have different coping mechanisms, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to handling life’s ups and downs. Ultimately, the key is to be true to yourself, try to avoid any regrets and just let the music play..

Music Manifestos

There was a time when bands made as many manifestos as they made records.

A manifesto is what you want to change in the world through your art.

Music isn’t just about how to write a song, it’s about making a cultural impact. Manifestos have the power to spark whole movements, provoke social change, and cause revolutions that change our vision of art, music and beyond.

They can predict the future. They can re-set the past..

These are some of my favourite music manifestos. Have you thought what yours could be?

Reach Out

There are people in our lives who stand by us, offer support in times of need, and celebrate our successes. Friends are the ones who lend a listening ear when we need to vent, offer a shoulder to lean on during tough times, and share in our joys and sorrows. This absolute support and trust in one another makes the world a brighter and more secure place.
