Why can’t We live together?

Yesterday was Armistice Day. The 11th minute of 11th day of the 11th month. The day when the mass slaughter of 8 and a half million soldiers and 13 million civilians ended.  The WW1 poets Rupert Graves, Rupert Brooke, Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen observed, lamented and died during and after the war to end all wars. Except war didn’t end. Today, on this day of remembrance, I will let the music and words and speak for themselves. Honouring the dead, recognising the sacrifice and most of all, asking why is it happening again?

Surrender to Peace

A lot of music has been written about the act of surrender – to love, to inevitability but it can also mean giving in to force or oppression. Surrender can be a positive choice. Reconciliation in a conflict or argument can lead to resolution and peace. It can also mean letting go of control and accepting things beyond one’s power, which can be a source of relief and personal growth.

But surrender can also be a very negative experience when it means giving up your principles, rights, or values in the face of oppression.

Cross-fire Hurricanes

The powerful and unpredictable nature of hurricanes mirrors the intensity and turbulence of human emotions. A hurricane can leave a trail of destruction in its wake, and emotions can also leave a lasting impact on individuals. Musicians use the imagery and symbolism of hurricanes to put wind beneath the wings of lyrics. The roaring winds, crashing waves, and torrential rain that arrive with hurricanes are symbols of the highs and lows, the chaos and intensity, that emotions can bring.

The show is creaking at the seams this week with great lost music.
