Street Gospel

This Sunday we’re taking it to the streets: where faith meets funk, where belief rides a backbeat, and where the sacred sneaks into the everyday. Street Gospel is all about the places where spirit shows up unannounced: in a brass riff, a whispered confession, a hip‑hop benediction, a choir echoing off brick walls. These are songs that praise, protest, heal, and line up to have a great time. It’s music with dust on its shoes and light in its chest. From revival‑tent shouts to candle‑lit prayers, this is belief in motion.

Tropic of Groove – the meridian where funk, jazz and soul meet.

Acid jazz grooves because it sits right at the crossroads of funk, soul, jazz improvisation and club culture. The rhythm section punches with a irresistible beat; horns and keys add colour and character, while the bassline always the secret engine hits you right in your dance core. Samba City Grooves

On the show this week, in honour of the weather and the Bank Holiday, we’re stepping into a different kind of sunshine – the kind that doesn’t depend on the British weather, but on rhythm.

Latin dance carries the history of streets, cafés, carnivals and night time cities, but it never feels old. Whether it’s the elegance of Rio, the swagger of New York salsa, or the nu jazz reinventions from Tokyo to Berlin, every track was made for bodies in motion.

So shake yourself down and get ready for two hours of heat, colour and pure grooves.

Choice Cuts

Today is a show about choices and decisions – that splitsecond when the world holds its breath and you realise the next move is yours. On The Whole Nine Yards this week we explore the crossroads, the tiny pivots, the wild leaps, the quiet Oks and the loud forget-its that shape who we become. Every track is a turning point, every story a fork in the road, every moment an invitation to choose again.

Hour One is The Crossroads Hour about the wrong trains we board anyway, the hearts we give away, the futures we gamble on. The choices come fast impulsive, hopeful, sometimes reckless the kind that change you before youve even caught your breath.

Hour Two is The Consequences Hour, the dust has settled and the questions deepen. What do we carry from the decisions we made in the dark. Reminders that every yes, every no, every maybe shapes the person we become. This is the soundtrack of choosing, losing, learning, and beginning again.

All Things Must Pass

The passing of time could be a worrying process – but it’s not because ageing has never worried all those Peter Pans in the Pop business. They sneer at the aging process – think ‘My Generation’ by The Who and they treat it as a joke – as in ‘When I’m 64’ by The Beatles written by McCartney when he was 15. Sometimes the tone becomes more philosophical as with that other Beatle writer, George Harrison and ‘All Things Must Pass’. And then there is ‘Puff the Magic Dragon’ by Peter, Paul and Mary – a song about the loss of childhood innocence or was it a subversive  drugs anthem? This week the clock may be ticking but these songs are pictures in attic.
