Absolution for beginners – songs about Forgiveness

How often do we say that something is unforgiveable? Maybe we feel that way 20 years after the original offence was committed. Suppose it is forgivable and we can choose to forgive? The resentment built up can sometimes be worse than the original cause of it. So why not say I forgive you. Will you forgive me? And a lot of the time the real culprit is seen as ourselves. So saying the words I forgive myself can be just as powerful.

Here are some songs that may help you do that.

Hope is a rainbow

Hope enables us to be true to our goals and motivated to keep trying. Hope gives us a reason to continue to fight and believe that our current circumstances will improve, despite the unpredictable nature of human behaviour. Despite the rain of fire rainbows do still come out..

Psychologist and hope researcher Charles Snyder said:

A rainbow is a prism that sends shards of multicolored light in various directions. It lifts our spirits and makes us think of what is possible. Hope is the same – a personal rainbow of the mind.

Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning.

At the end of the garden, peeping between the floor boards of the abandoned potting shed, the wizened old fronds of music long forgotten are being watered by the Chancy Gardeners of the music world. From the dry stems little explosions of colour burst forth, the sun penetrates and the dance begins. Forget the rusting rakes and shattered sacraments, Jesus was way cool.

You found them. We play them. Songs that have been redeemed and given a new life.

Playing the Gee-Gees

Using horses to carry your advertising campaign and reinforcing it year after year is a clever move. In literature and mythology, the horse (or its alter-ego, Pegasus) signifies strength and how you should carry yourself in the face of adversity. The horse serves to remind you to take care of your emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. The horse symbolism also speaks about freedom. The horse or Pegasus is a symbol of power, freedom and steadfastness.

So in music the same set of values applies. The horse is used in music to represent freedom (wild), power (white horses) and self-sufficiency. It is a potent symbol of our pioneering spirit with links to deserts, wilderness and exploration. Why wouldn’t musicians want to write the soundtrack to that?

If you thought you knew all about the influence of the equine in rock and roll, think again. The Stones, Byrds, America, Cowboy Junkies, U2, Moby, The Sundays, Bunnymen, Joe Butt from Littlehampton. The whole bridle and groom.

Shadows on the Dancefloor

The  salad days of disco, glitter balls and garish lighting are over. We’re  now in an unlit underground dance cave where there is no hint of  glamour, just shadows caught up in their own tribal body shapes. The  music is spoken in French, Spanish and Swedish and even though it is  dark here, it is even darker outside.
There is no more celebrity. Just sirens.
The party is over. But the music stays.
In the dark we are all the same..

Alternative dance music with something to say..for today.

Once upon a time in another place

For 850 Lost Immortals, 5 to 7pm on a Sunday is a gathering ground of yesterday’s missing masterpieces, today’s emerging talent and tomorrow’s legends. Songs that live in a difference country called melody and speak in the lost language of musicianship. The possibilities. The passage of time. The participation of shared song searches. The thrill of prospecting for gold in those hills and streams. And finding it.
