Old Rage

Getting older doesn’t mean slowing down, giving in, or keeping quiet. For the next two hours, we’ll play songs that capture the frustrations and reflections of those in their later years – and those who see them coming and have something to say about it.

A lifetime of stories with the joys, the battles, the nostalgia, and the protests against being ignored.

So settle in, turn up the volume, and join me as we play a few tunes by those who should know better.

Gold Standards

Gold. It’s a word that carries weight, prestige and power. It has fuelled ambition, ignited wars, and forged dreams. So, when an artist is brave enough to put ‘gold’ in a song title, they are making a statement – whether they realize it or not.

Gold isn’t just a colour or a commodity; it’s a symbol. A song with ‘gold’ in its name should be something special, worthy of its own precious title. If you’re going to evoke gold, your song better shine, stand the test of time, and grow in value. It had better be solid..

Easy. Does it.

Adult contemporary music has had a bad rap. Often dismissed as middle of the road and inconsequential, it has been the secret love of many serious music listeners over the years. At the age of 13 or 14 I was introduced to the genre via Mason Williams and ‘Classical Gas’; Gordon Lightfoot and even Frank Sinatra’s ‘I will drink the wine’. Elvis singles like ‘The Wonder of You’ and ‘In The Ghetto’ were worn thin on my turntable. And then someone introduced me the unique tone of voice and horn that was Chet Baker. For a short while it was hip to be square. It was so easy back then.
