Chartless (Pt III 2019 – 2025 + rare bonus gems)

This week:  Chartless — the concluding chapter in our trilogy of musical misfits and near-hits. Following Uncharted and Beyond the Chart, this final instalment shines a spotlight on the best non-Top 30 tracks from 2019 to 2025. These are the songs that slipped past the algorithms, dodged the playlists, and danced just outside the spotlight. Plus a few bonus tracks from earlier years that we simply couldn’t leave behind. Music that was chartless – but never voiceless.

Tune in to discover what the charts missed but your ears won’t forget.

Uncharted

On the show this week, which I’ve called ‘Uncharted’, I’ve delved into the forgotten corners of my musical cupboard, starting from when I started seriously listening to music. From 1969 to 1994 – half of my listening life – I’ve collected songs that never made the charts, but carved deep grooves in my memory. One track from each year that I consider to be the best release of the year. The tracks that defied popularity, that passed fame by and somehow said more because of it. Each song is a bus stop on a personal trip through sound: overlooked, underplayed, and unforgettable. This isn’t a history of hits – it’s a love letter to the ones that got away.

A beautiful miss parade.

Part two – ‘Off the Chart’ 1995 to the present next week.

Britflipped – Britpop covers

What is there to say about Britpop that hasn’t already been said? Well, nothing, so we’re not going to talk about it, but we are going to talk about the acts that were inspired by these standards.

It shows that the songs can outrun the genre and typecasting..

The songs chosen were chosen for how well the artists captured the essence of the original recording, without slavishly trying to emulate it. These aren’t tribute acts playing their favourite songs note for note, but artists adding their own voice to well-loved classics.
